Day 1: Arrival day in the Kiviniemi Farm
Welcome & introduction to the week’s programme in the Kiviniemi farm. Getting familiar with the area. In the evening, sauna and dinner in the main building.
Day 2: Guided activity 5 hours
Hiking trip to the Lakkala Heritage Farm. Lakkala Farm is located in the southern part of Koli National Park on the shore of Lake Herajärvi, along the Herajärven Kierros hiking trail. The landscape is idyllic. Sheep pastures and old fields surround the traditional wooden buildings in the yard. We have a picnic at the campfire site of the farm. Hiking 12 km, total ascent 180 m.
Day 3: Guided activity 4 hours
Canoeing trip to Lake Herajärvi. Lake Herajärvi, bordering Koli National Park, is a 14 km long, beautiful lake with clear waters. The lofty surrounding hills, the unique nature and the broken shoreline are features the lake has been known for centuries.
Day 4: Guided activity 6 hours
Bike tour to Koli National Park. We cycle along the dirt roads towards the holiest and highest peak of Koli, the Ukko-Koli. In Ukko-Koli, we hike in the most loved Finnish national landscape and listen to stories about the Koli hills. Cycling distance in one direction 20 km, total ascent 405 m. Cycling distance back and forth 52 km, total ascent 892 m. Walking distance in Koli National Park 2 km. Possibility of e-biking for an additional fee. We have a picnic in the park after our walk.
Day 5: Guided activity 5 hours
Hiking trip to Ryläys Hill. The Ryläys observation tower, along the Herajärven Kierros hiking trail, opens us a beautiful, 360-degree view e.g. over the hills of Koli National Park and Lake Pielinen sparkling behind the hills. We have a picnic in a wooden hut near the observation tower. Walking distance 20 km (10 km in one direction). Total ascent 630 m.
Day 6: City of Joensuu
City of Joensuu, 56 km and 1 hour drive from the Kiviniemi farm, is the center of North Karelia province in terms of events, restaurant life and shopping, as well as a transport hub.
