NUUKSIO NATIONAL PARK • ESPOO, FINLAND

Perfect winter nature experience close to Helsinki, combining national park adventures, Finnish sauna culture, and Nordic dining.

Nuuksio Winter Immersion

Welcome to the Finnish forest in its most elemental season.
Four days of snowshoeing, open-fire dining, reindeer encounters, and daily sauna.

Welcome to Haltia Lake Lodge and Nuuksio!
At Haltia Lake Lodge, you sleep in beautifully designed rooms and glamping tents right at the edge
of Nuuksio National Park. You wake up to forest and frozen lake, take morning sauna before
breakfast, and step directly into the wilderness for guided snowshoe hikes through one of Finland’s
most beloved natural landscapes.

The lodge is intimate — just 20 rooms and five heated glamping tents — which means your group
will feel the place as your own. There are no televisions in the rooms. The forest, the fire, and the sauna take their place.
Come and discover winter Finland the way it should be felt: slow, quiet, and full of warmth.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival — Into the Forest
Arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa airport or Helsinki city centre, where a transfer will bring you to Haltia
Lake Lodge in approximately 35 minutes. As you settle into your room or glamping tent, the national park begins just outside your door.
The afternoon is yours. Take a first walk around the lodge grounds, breathe the winter air, and let the journey unwind.
In the evening, gather in the lakeside sauna — a ritual you will return to throughout the stay.
Dinner is served at Lake Lodge Bistro, the lodge’s cosy Nordic dining room.

DAY 2 Into the Wild on Snowshoes
After a generous breakfast and morning sauna, lace up for one of the most rewarding ways to
move through a Finnish winter: on snowshoes. An experienced guide leads you through the snow-
covered lakeland terrain of Nuuksio National Park, sharing stories of the forest’s ecology, seasonal
wildlife, and the history of this ancient landscape.

If you can walk, you can snowshoe — and the forest rewards every step. Keep your eyes open:
Foxes, hares, and tracks of elk or birds of prey may appear in the snow.

The afternoon is free for rest, reading, or a quiet walk. As evening falls, you are invited to the most
memorable dinner of the trip: a three-course Nordic meal prepared over live flames at
Maisemakammi, the lodge’s award-winning Scenic Hut. Semi-outdoor, architecturally striking, with
direct views across the frozen lake — this is open-fire dining at its finest. The Hut is yours for the
entire evening.

DAY 3 Reindeer, Ancient Forest & Nordic Heritage
This morning brings one of the most unique experiences available within 30 kilometres of Helsinki.
A short transfer takes you to Nuuksio Reindeer Park — Finland’s southernmost reindeer
park, tucked into the forest just 1.5 kilometres from the lodge. Your guide introduces you to these
gentle Arctic animals and you hand-feed them lichen at close range.

Afterwards, gather in the traditional White Reindeer Lappish Hut (kota) for campfire coffee, tea,
and freshly baked cinnamon buns while the guide shares stories of reindeer life, northern
traditions, and the Sami relationship with these iconic animals. Time is set aside to browse the
small on-site souvenir shop.

Back at the lodge, the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia — one of Finland’s finest cultural landmarks —
is directly adjacent and available for self-guided exploration. Its world-class exhibitions cover the country’s national parks, wildlife, and natural heritage in a building that itself won the Finnish Architecture Award.

Lunch is at Ravintola Haltia, the Nature Centre’s restaurant, known for its seasonal Finnish buffet.
In the afternoon, the experience deepens. A short walk from the lodge brings you to the Solvalla lakeshore saunas — a pair of traditional Finnish saunas sitting directly on the shore of Lake Pitkäjärvi, just 400 metres from the hotel. In winter, an ice hole (avanto) is cut in the frozen lake for cold dipping — the most exhilarating Finnish wellness ritual there is. The cycle of heat and cold, steam and silence, and the vast white expanse of the frozen lake is something you will not forget.
Towels are available to hire on site.

Dinner is back at Lake Lodge Bistro for a final evening in the glow of the lodge.

DAY 4 Departure — Moi moi, Nuuksio!
A final breakfast and morning sauna before check-out at noon. Transfers to Helsinki-Vantaa airport
or the city centre can be arranged and take approximately 30–35 minutes. You leave with the quiet
of the Finnish winter still somewhere inside you.

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. A comprehensive plan should cover trip interruption,
cancellation, medical expenses, emergency evacuation, and baggage.
