HYVÄRILÄ – YOUTH AND HOLIDAY CENTRE - Camp school summer

Finnish Youth Centres are supervised and subsidised by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The development of youth work in the Youth Centre Network is carried out by following the current Youth Act and The National Youth Work and Youth Policy Programme. The Finnish Youth Centres are experts in non-formal learning, and we have for decades witnessed the success of our non-formal learning methods.

Your accommodation is located at the youthhostel. The Hyvärilä youthhostel is modest and clean with 15 rooms for 2-6 persons, altogether for 30-60 persons. Suitable for groups. There´s bunkbeds in rooms, toilets and showers are shared. As well as livingroom and small kitchen. 
Hyvärilä has a Green Key sertificate and the Sustainable Travel Finland label. We are committed to developing operations in every area to be more sustainable.

Meals
You'll enjoy full board which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snack in nearby restaurant. Every morning, the hotel sets up a buffet-style breakfast, allowing each guest to assemble a meal suitable for their preferences to start the day. The buffet includes local bakery bread and Karelian pies, along with juices from Pete's Berry Farm. Additionally, the breakfast features yogurt, vegetables, various toppings for the bread.

Lunch, dinner and evening snack menus are designed to satisfy everyone's hunger regardless of dietary preferences. We are proud to announce that we offer the best vegetarian food in town. Our restaurant bakes fresh bread daily, alongside the offerings from local bakeries. We participate in the 'Steps to Organic' program and currently hold a two-star organic restaurant rating, signifying our commitment to increasing the use of organic ingredients in our recipes.

Facilities
There are plenty of activities both indoors and outdoors in youthcentre surroundings, and its location by the forest and Lake Pielinen allows for an active camp school

PielisAreena is a sports hall located in the Hyvärilä courtyard area. The sports hall is divided into three sections where various games can be played. PielisAreena also has a small gym and a bouldering room.

The Rantasauna has two sauna sections and a cozy fireplace room with a sofa group and a 12-person dining table, with additional serving space at the serving counter.

Our staff have years of work experience in the field of youth work, sports and nature. We provide a customer-friendly service. Our instructors are highly qualified and have certification in youth work, education, sports or environmental studies. They are positive, have good social skills and are all-round professional group leaders.

Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, more specifically defined as “learning through reflection on doing”. Skills, knowledge and experience are acquired outside a traditional academic classroom setting.

01.30-    Canoeing in Lake Pielinen
Canoeing is a lovely way to move on the water. Stepping into a canoe can also require courage and sheer perseverance! The secret to success in paddling together lies in interpersonal skills. We go thru safety instructions and paddling technique before heading to canoeing.
03.00-    The playtime  
Hyvärilä´s own game called Hyrlinki. Hyrlinki is played in cooperation; the game requires interaction, encouraging your friend, and playing fair! If needed, players also need the ability to embrace silly challenges that increase the difficulty of the game. Hyrlinki is a backyard game created for the field at Hyvärilä: in this game built on the basis of curling, bowling, and korona, motor skills are developed.

Day 3

10.00-    Archery at PielisAreena
The bow is one of the oldest and most important inventions, used as a weapon by almost all indigenous peoples. At Hyvärilä's archery classes, the theory of archery is covered, and shooting is done with recurve bows. Practice enhances accuracy and concentration. We go thru introduction of archery and technique and methods before starting shooting. We split the group in half, and one half can play games in the other section while the other group is doing archery, and then we switch."

Climbing develops your body control, challenges your courage, and teaches you how to find the right path forward. Inside PielisAreena, there is a climbing wall with several routes of varying difficulty levels. Climbing and safety instructions are provided before the activity.
03.00-    Karelia pastries workshop
You get familiar with the Finnish food tradition hands-on when you get to bake Karelian pasties yourself with the guidance of the workshop instructor. Finally, you enjoy delicious, freshly baked Karelian pasties together.     
05.00-    Dinner time

Unforgettable and educational experiences from Koli! It's easy to combine a visit to the Finnish national landscape with a school camp. Koli offers opportunities for nature experiences and deepening knowledge. At the Ukko Nature Centre, you'll learn about Koli's past to the present moment. Stepping outside, you step directly into our mythical national landscape. Koli has Finnish national scenary.

10:00    Handcraft bracelets workshop
Create a small souvenir from the school camp in the bracelet workshop. We'll make a macramé-style bracelet, each one unique.

    Get to know Finnish education system by visiting school. 
02.00-    Youth house visit (Nuorten Kulma) & tasting Finnish snacks
Local youth house provides a safe and supportive environment for young people to socialize, engage in recreational activities, receive support and guidance.

A Finnish library is a multifunctional public institution that offers a wide range of services to locals. It provides access to a diverse collection of books, magazines, newspapers, and other materials in various formats, including digital resources.
