Basics of macraweaving on the island of Ärjänsaari
Welcome to learn the basic knots of macramé and macraweaving on the beautiful paradise island of Ärjänsaari in Kajaani! You will also make a lovely little wall hanging called "Mielikki".
During the excursion, we will travel by boat to Ärjänsaari, located in Oulujärvi lake, and walk to a pre-selected "macramé making place” in the middle of the forest in a landscape of sandy ridges and pine forests. We attach unique Metsäkädet macramé racks to the trees and let the knot-tying calm our minds. The racks are designed to be tree-friendly and adjustable to make the handcraft work environmentally friendly and easy and ergonomic for the maker. On the excursion, you'll get step-by-step instructions on how to make a wall hanging and get to marvel at the awesomeness of macramé making in nature! When the wall hangings are ready, we will enjoy a Finnish snack and return to the harbour by boat. We end the excursion with a mind full of macramé inspiration!

The excursion includes boat transport, materials for making macramé, the use of a macramé rack during the excursion, a finished macramé wall hanging to take home and a small snack.

Group size: 4-8 persons
Availability and booking conditions: 7.6- 30.8.2024 by advance booking by message at least 5 days before the desired start of the excursion. Please note that the excursion will not take place in strong winds and/or rain.
The excursion can be cancelled by the organiser at any time before the event, due to weather changes or other force majeure. By special agreement, the excursion may be rescheduled. Please ensure that you can be contacted before the event at the telephone number you provide when making your booking. Any cancellation by the organiser will result in a full refund.
If a participant cancels less than 48 hours before the excursion or does not show up for the excursion, the cancellation fee is 100% of the excursion price.If illness prevents you from taking part in the excursion, apply for compensation from your insurance company (travel insurance).
Departure point: The departure point of the excursion is Ruunaniemi harbour at Kajaani. The address is Ruunaniementie 70, 87800 Kajaani, from where the boat transportation to the Ärjänsaari island leaves. The guide of the excursion will meet you at the harbour.
For who:
The hike is about 1,5 km on easy terrain. The hike is suitable for people of normal fitness and those who are new to macramé. It is also suitable for those who already know the basic macramé knots but want to brush up on these skills and learn how to make macramé outdoors.
Please note:
● Macramé wall hanging is mainly done standing still, so please ensure to have good shoes and weather appropriate clothing.
● Please bring your own water bottle and water for the day trip.
● We also recommend a headwear, sunscreen and mosquito repellent if needed
