Gathering Around Food and Fire
This relaxed small-group experience is inspired by the Finnish way of gathering around food and fire throughout the year. The atmosphere is closer to a shared backyard gathering than a traditional dinner service, with dishes prepared partly over the fire and partly in advance to allow the experience to unfold at an unhurried pace. During the gathering, guests enjoy several small seasonal dishes inspired by Finnish outdoor life, everyday Finnish outdoor food traditions and simple fire cooking.
Seasonal Flavours
The menu changes slightly with the seasons and available ingredients, but may include for example:
- Toasted Finnish rye bread with lake fish spread, pickled mushrooms and flavoured butter
- Grilled seasonal vegetables with a seasonal dip or sauce
- Finnish sausages cooked over the fire with homemade potato salad
- Flame-cooked rainbow trout and fresh seasonal salad
- Toasted Finnish fresh cheese with jam
- Campfire coffee or tea with a seasonal dessert
About the gathering
The experience usually takes place outdoors around the fire at Kolin Runo B&B. Light rain, changing weather and the atmosphere of the seasons are considered part of the experience. Depending on the weather and season, parts of the gathering may also take place under a covered terrace. During winter also indoors is available. Some dishes are prepared together over the fire, while others are prepared in advance and shared at the table. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal rather than a cooking class or restaurant dinner.
Seasonal Variations
The menu and atmosphere change naturally throughout the year depending on the season, weather and available ingredients. Indoor toilet facilities are available. Dietary requirements can usually be accommodated when informed at the time of booking.
Shared Stories Around the Fire
Many of the dishes come with small stories shared by your local hosts about Finnish outdoor life, everyday food culture and traditions around the fire.
