Karelian Delicacies – Culinary Journey & Traditional Baking Workshop
Welcome to a unique journey into the world of Karelian flavors! This week-long experience takes participants to the roots of traditional Karelian cuisine – we bake the classics together, learn the secrets of the craft, and enjoy the treats we create. The tour begins and concludes with a visit to Helsinki, followed by a comfortable journey home.

Program
Day 1 – Arrival
Welcome to Finland and to the vibrant city of Helsinki!
Enjoy your time discovering the city’s landmarks, cultural highlights, and unique atmosphere.
Accommodation in a hotel in the center of Helsinki.
Day 2 – Transfer to North Karelia and Nurmes
Arrival at the guesthouse, followed by a welcome coffee with the host.
Getting to know the week’s program.

Day 3 – Traditional Karelian Pies
We learn to prepare three iconic Karelian pies:
- rice pies
- potato pies
- carrot pies
Day 4 – Vatruska Pies and Sultsinas
We explore two beloved traditional pastries:
- vatruskas, rich pastries glowing with butter and savory fillings
- sultsinas, thin rolled delicacies
- During the day, we practice rolling techniques and working with pastry dough.
Day 5 – Pyöröt and Sweet Karelian Pies
The theme of the day is two beloved Karelian pastries: pyöröt and sweet Karelian pies.
We dive into the sweet side of Karelian celebrations!
We bake a variety of sweet pies and learn different decoration techniques.
Day 6 – The Highlight of the Week!
Together we prepare a traditional Karelian feast table.
The day culminates in a festive dinner where we enjoy the dishes of Karelia.
Day 7 – Journey to Helsinki
After breakfast, transfer to Helsinki.
Free time to explore the city, shop, or enjoy its cultural offerings.
Accommodation in a hotel in the center of Helsinki.
Day 8 – Departure
Departure home in the morning.
Participants take home the recipes and skills gained during this unforgettable week.
