This unique autumn program invites you to explore the deep silence, glowing colors, and star-filled skies of Arctic Lakeland. The journey combines relaxation, wellness, and cosmic discovery in two unforgettable destinations: Lentiira Holiday Village in Kuhmo and Arctic Giant in Paltamo.
Under the unpolluted night skies, you’ll experience the beauty of true darkness — a rare natural luxury that restores both body and mind. Guided stargazing, solar observations, astrophotography workshops, and nature excursions reveal the wonders of our cosmos while immersing you in the peace of Finnish nature.

Lentiira Holiday Village
In the remote Arctic Lakeland village of Lentiira, Kuhmo, one of our most precious natural resources is the unpolluted night sky — here, it is truly dark and the nature’s profound silence brings stillness to both mind and body. In Lentiira Holiday Village we offer our guests the opportunity to experience the dark season and polar night in its full, immersive beauty - to unwind and enjoy a good night’s sleep surrounded by the silence and darkness of nature. Our lighting is designed to enhance wellness and we embrace the nature’s darkness. Our specialty programmes also includes observation of dark-sky phenomena — stars, the Milky Way, and the Northern Lights — guided by our knowledgable resident astronomer and professional telescopes. We venture into nature on moonlit excursions, nature walks, try moonbathing allowing the natural light to restore the body, have dinners and evenings by fire.
Day 1 – Arrival & Orientation under Northern Skies
Arrive at Lentiira Holiday Village and ease into the rhythm of darkness and discovery.
Evening
- Arrival, Dinner & Welcome Briefing – Meet your guide and fellow Dark Sky travelers; overview of sky conditions and celestial highlights.
- Guided Stargazing Session – Constellation tour, laser guidance, and telescopic views of star clusters and nebulae.
- Optional: Astrophotography – Learn camera settings and tracking techniques lakeside.
- Midnight Hot Drink by the Fire – Relax beneath the Milky Way.
Day 2 – Solar Science & Deep Sky Discovery
Morning:
- Late Breakfast
- Solar Viewing & Talk: “From Sun to Aurora — the Solar Connection.”
- Observe sunspots and prominences safely with solar telescopes; learn how solar winds create auroras
Afternoon:
-Optional: Guided Nature Walk & Sauna Session
-Optional: Astrophotography Data Workshop – Process your first night’s images.
Evening:
- Dinner: Local Cuisine
- Deep Sky Night – Observe distant galaxies, planetary nebulae, and double stars.
- Midnight Fire
Day 3 – Celestial Wonders of the Northern Sky
A special night dedicated to stargazing and long-exposure astrophotography.
- Late Breakfast & Free Time
- Optional canoeing, local culture visit, or photography editing.
- Solar Viewing
Afternoon:
Rest & Sauna by the Lake Lentiira
Evening:
- Observation Night
- Guided stargazing session of the night sky
- Learn to use tracking mounts and compose star trails.
-Midnight Fire Circle & Hot Chocolate under the night sky.
Day 4 | Solar Viewing & Farewell
- Late Breakfast
- Final Solar Viewing Session – Observe changes in sunspots and reflect on your cosmic journey.

Arctic Giant is a family business from Kainuu, offering unique accommodation, restaurant and safari experiences on the top of Kivesvaara in Paltamo. Our luxurious and romantic atmosphere provides the perfect setting for a peaceful escape from everyday life and creating unforgettable holiday memories. Treat yourself to delicious culinary experiences in our atmospheric restaurant Makuhelmi.
Welcome to the Arctic Giant – coffee is served!
With the guide will let you you know these next three days schedule and what we will going to experience.
- Check in to the Birdhouse cabin and settle down.
- Local 3 cours dinner serve at the Restaurant Makuhelmi.
- After dinner its time to move outside and experience the first guided dark sky trip. Guide will lead you deep in to the dark forest telling the stories about dark sky.
Day 5. | Full day trip to the Giant castle of Pahalouhos
Breakfast at the Restaurant Makuhelmi.
- After breakfast adventure stars from the Arctic Giant Birdhouse hotel by car and heads our first nature spot Yölinnunkuru where the story of the Giants begins. There are old beliefs The Giants are taken the rocks for their massive castle Pahalouhos. Within story telling guide will lead the group up to the hilltop of Valkeisen-kalliot where we get really good sight of the pond of Valkeinen and ruska colors.
-After Valkeisen-kalliot the group heads one of the Arctic Giant Aurora camp where we eat lunch in the wilds. After lunch story continues and our road leads us to the Giants castle of Pahalouhos. Guide will tell old beliefs of the Giant and show the entry of this massive rock castle. After storytelling we head back to the car that leads us back to the hotel.
- Dinner waits and after dinner its time to Forest sauna and Arctic Fountain as a cold pool. Self guided evening and night hikes around the hotel area
Day 6. | eFatbike tour + additional Finnish sun experience and northern lights
Breakfast in the restaurant Makuhelmi.
- Today we ride electric fat bikes on the top of Kivesvaara. Halfway through the trip we will visit the Arctic Giant campfire hut, where we will have lunch by the campfire. After lunch we will have free time at the hotel or you can choose to experience a traditional Finnish sauna as an additional experience. The experience starts at the hotel by car, where the driver will drive you near the wilderness lake Iso-Melanenen, where a sauna and a swing in the lake await you. After the sauna experience, the driver will take you back to the hotel.
- After dinner dark sky trip waiting. We are heading to the Arctic Giant Aurora camp and if we are luck we have experience starry sky and the northern lights.
Day 7. | Time to say goodbye
Breakfast at the Restaurant Makuhelmi. its time to get last memoriable photos and the gifts from the Arctic Giant its time to say goodbye
