Forest Treasures in North Karelia – Mushroom and Berry Week in Finland
This trip tastes like the forest. Step into the autumn forest of North Karelia, where silence, scents of pine, and the rich harvest of nature await you. During this 7-day journey, you will collect mushrooms and berries, learn traditional Finnish cooking, and unwind in evening saunas. Program
Day 1 – Arrival at Guesthouse Pihlajapuu
Arrival and warm welcome at the guesthouse. Traditional Finnish dinner and introduction to the week ahead.
Day 2 – Mushroom Foraging
Berry and mushroom workshop before heading into the forest. Guided hike in nearby forests to learn safe mushroom-picking techniques. Focus on chanterelles and other seasonal treasures. Picnic lunch by a campfire and dinner featuring wild game.
Day 3 – Berry Picking Adventure
A day dedicated to blueberries and lingonberries. Learn preservation methods and enjoy an evening dinner with a “berry twist.”
Day 4 – Funnel Chanterelles and Forest Spirit
A quiet walk in the moist autumn forest, focusing on collecting funnel chanterelles (suppilovahvero). Experience the serene spirit of the forest.
Day 5 – Free Day or Optional Excursions
Enjoy a relaxing day at the guesthouse or join an additional excursion: fishing, canoeing, a spa visit, or another guided forest trip to gather wild treasures.
Day 6 – Forest on a Plate
A joint cooking workshop where guests prepare a three-course dinner from the collected ingredients. Traditional baking session with Karelian pies and berry pies.
Day 7 – Departure
Breakfast and farewell before transportation to Kuopio Airport or Nurmes railway station.
