Picnic Trip to the Swamp to Bear's Land

Guided picnic excursion to the northern part of Kontiolahti's swamp.

We’ll meet at the parking place and head out on the trail! On the 1-2 km route, we’ll chat about interesting aspects of Finnish nature, the features of swamps, and hear about the Finnish relationship with swamps and their livelihoods. Together, we’ll light a campfire at the designated spot and enjoy our picnic!

The Finnish swamp is a unique ecosystem where silence, lush vegetation, and rich biodiversity come together. Swamps are an essential part of Finland's landscape and culture. They provide shelter for many animal and plant species, and their layered structure tells the history of thousands of years. Walking on the swamp, you can feel the unique rhythm of nature and see how life thrives in seemingly harsh conditions.

The trip includes: 

• Guided swamp walk, including a visit to the Osprey’s nest
• Fire-making and lighting a campfire
• Picnic and stories
• Tales about nature, expeditions, and even mythical swamps

What to bring and consider: 

• Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing for hiking.
• Waterproof rubber boots are required for the trip
• Own backpack – each participant carries their picnic supplies
• Mosquito repellent, own water bottle, and a seat pad
