Trip to Pirunkirkko Cave into the depths of the ancient rocks of Koli
Feel a touch of Koli's past in the exciting Pirunkirkko crevice cave. The cave is located on a steep rock slope in the Pielinen landscape along the Koli coastal road, 300 m from the parking lot. The cave is 1 - 7 meters high, 34 m long and one meter wide, shaped like the letter Z. The beginning of the cave is very shallow and dim, the cave is open further on. In the cave you can see a glimpse of the power of the continental ice and experience the energy of the rocks. The place is full of stories!
The guide will meet the group at the Pirunkirkko parking lot. You will get into the atmosphere of the cave with stories about past events, you will also learn about the geology of Koli and admire the beauty of Pielinen. The guide will provide everyone with headlamps and, if necessary, anti-slip shoes for your own shoes. It is not advisable to go to the cave in your best clothes, the cave walls are damp and the floor can be rickety. The cave can accommodate about 8 adults at a time. In larger groups, those waiting for their turn to enter the cave admire the landscapes of Lake Pielinen and observe the surrounding nature from a beautiful rock ledge. The lake landscape features the national park's esker islands near the shore.

Difficulty level Demanding. There are sturdy, steep metal stairs down to the cave. The cave entrance is rather small, you have to go through it in a squatting position. There are 2 high steps in the cave at the beginning.

The guide will board the group's own transport and tell stories about Koli
and the nature of Koli on the way. The drive from the village to Pirunkirjo takes 20 - 30 minutes, the distance is approx. 12 km.
