Food in the Wilderness
We prepare food together for lunch every day on an open fire or in a camping stove from seasonal wild herbs/mushrooms/berries and fresh fish (depending on the season).
We will taste the region's cultural-historical delicacies, such as the basic dishes of a slash-and-burn farmer: turnips and other root vegetables, Talkkuna powder (made from coarsely ground grain. The grain is barley, rye or oats), wild herb flavored barley and rye berry porridge.
We will learn the following basic skills of a wilderness cooking:
- Smoking the fish and different ways cook the fish on an open fire
- Baking on an open fire
- Cooking with embers and ashes
- The use of the smoker and the camping stove in food preparation
During the camp, we catch fresh fish and, if possible, we collect natural foods such as wild vegetables, mushrooms or berries, which we use in cooking.
