Full service handcrafting and willderness skills adventure week in Arctic lakeland
Join us for a week-long journey into the heart of Arctic lakeland, where wilderness skills and handcrafting merge to create an totally new experience. Led by a local wilderness guide and handcrafting enthusiast, this adventure promises an immersive exploration of the beautiful landscapes of Kainuu.
You will learn the art of macramé and master essential wilderness knots used in both crafting and survival. You will also have the chance to ignite your passion for making campfires and orienteering. After active days you will unwind in comfortable guesthouse each night. During this week you will also taste  local delicacies and campfire snacks.

Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Finnish landscapes, from enchanting forests to hills, lakes, and islands. You will cruise the stunning Oulujärvi, known as the Kainuu Sea, on an boat trip to discover the paradise island called Ärjänsaari. You will also conquer the heights of Vuokatinvaara hill with a stunning view. But perhaps it's the mysterious silence and serenity of Hiidenport National Park that you enjoy most?

During this week you will also get to shop in the centre of Kajaani city and your guide will take you to the best shops and cafés in the area. Or maybe your yarn stash needs to be replenished with local yarns or other handcrafting equipments? When you took part in this adventure, you can enjoy the pure and beautiful Finnish nature, the stunning landscapes of Kainuu and get more information and knowledge about wilderness skills. Best of all you will make for yourself survival bracelet and a macramé wall hanging to remember your holiday week!

DAY 1
Arrival at the accommodation and info about the week ahead.
Accommodation in Guesthouse Haapala at Sotkamo.

DAY 2
Today's theme: hiking to Naapurinvaara hill in Sotkamo and practising to make a campfire. Also learning
about finnish nature and basics of orienteering.
Route: easy
Route length: approx. 4-6km
Driving distance: 10 km

DAY 3
Theme of the day: hiking Eino Leino ́s trail, conquering the Vuokatti Hill and practising wilderness and macramé knots.
Route: intermediate/demanding
Route length: approx. 7km
Driving distance: 7 km

DAY 4
Theme of the day: shopping and city walking day in city of Kajaani
Driving distance: 37 km

DAY 5
Theme of the day: excursion to Hiidenportti National Park, hiking Hiidenkierros trail and making a survival wristband by the campfire.
Route: intermediate/demanding
Route lenght: 5km
Driving distance: 48 km.
PS. The survival bracelet is a bracelet made from a durable and versatile rope known as paracord. The
knots of the bracelets can be undone if necessary, making a long paracord rope available, for example in
emergency situations.

DAY 6
Theme of the day: a boat trip to Ärjänsaari island, hiking and making a macramé wall hanging on the island. Learn the basics of macramé making and what things to consider when making macramé in nature.

Route lenght: approx 3-4km
Driving distance: 55km

DAY 7
Time to say thank you and goodbye.

Price: 2000€/person /6 night, 7 days
Single room + 40€/day

Incl.: accommodation twin room, full board, 5 x sauna, guidance on excursion days, ship tickets to the island of Ärjä, 5 x sauna.

Tour level: Easy/Intermediate. Participants are required to have normal basic fitness. No previous
experience in crafts or wilderness skills is required. Suitable for beginners.

Please note: You will need outdoor clothing suitable for the varying weather and waterproof if necessary, good hiking
shoes, a rucksack and a water bottle. We will send you more detailed instructions by email once you have
registered.

Weather restrictions: the order of the days may need to be changed depending on weather conditions. It is
not possible to go to Ärjänsaari island in strong winds/storms. In stormy weather and heavy rain, macramé
wall hanging making is not possible outdoors and work may have to be done indoors.
