During this  tour  you  may  experience  the  impressive  Finnish  nature  and  beautiful  rural  areas  with  breath  taking  lake  landscapes.  While cycling  you  discover  small, picturesque villages with idyllic shops and cafés. Finnish summer is best enjoyed from the saddle of your bike or from kayak while paddling on a lake and river. Every  day  you  get  to  taste  homemade  Karelian  food  and various regional delicacies.

Day 1:  Arrival at Guesthouse Puukarin Pysäkki.

Day 2:  Bike tour to the house museum Murtovaara/Circular tour around the village Rasimäki, 40km/25km

Day 3:  From guesthouse Puukarin Pysäkki to guesthouse Laitalan Lomat Inn, 25 km

Day 4:  Day 4: Paddling and cycling - 8 km paddling on the nearby lakes and along the Valtimonjoki River. Or cycling in the surrounding area.

Day 5: Laitalan Lomat – Nurmes – Männikkölän Pirtti, 40 km

Day 6: Männikkölän Pirtti – Pihlajapuu, 15 km

Day 7: Nature reserve area Raesärkät, 40 km

Day 8: Departure

Duration: 8 days, 7 nights. 6 days of cycling

How to get there: To access Valtimo from Helsinki you may either fly to Joensuu or Kuopio. Kuopio airport is located 137 km from Valtimo and Joensuu airport 173 km. There is also a train connection from Helsinki to Joensuu and further train connection to Nurmes. From Joensuu you may take a coach bus di-rectly to Guesthouse Puukarin Pysäkki. Upon request we pick you up from Kuopio or Joensuu airport. The best way to get to Helsinki is by air, and it is easily accessible, no matter from where you are travelling from. At the airport there are various rental car companies available. If you want to travel with your own car, you can reach Helsinki via ferry from Tallinn, Stockholm, Travemünde and Rostock.

Physical requirements: The total length of the tour is 150-170 km. You cycle through hilly terrain on asphalt and firm gravel roads. Normal fitness and endurance is required.

In order to protect nature and save water and electricity, the bed linen from the first guesthouse is taken along and used throughout the tour! The bag with the bed linen goes with luggage transfer. Fresh towels are available in every guesthouse.
